Ireland look to Garry Ringrose to keep 2018 Six Nations Grand Slam on track vs. Scotland


Joe Schmidt has handed fit-again Garry Ringrose his first 2018 Six Nations start in one of two changes as Ireland look to keep their Grand Slam hopes alive against Scotland.

With Chris Farrell ruled out through injury, Ringrose comes in at centre while Tadhg Furlong — who missed the defeat of Wales — returns to the forwards pack. Iain Henderson who also missed that game returns on the replacements bench.

Only eight players remain from the starting Scottish team that halted Ireland’s Six Nations ambitions in the opening game of last year’s championship and the halfback partnership between Johhny Sexton — who missed last year’s defeat — and Conor Murray will be crucial in keeping Schmidt’s 100 percent home record against the Scots in tact.

Ireland team to face Scotland

Kearney, Earls, Ringrose, Aki, Stockdale, Sexton, Murray; Healy, Best (captain), Furlong; Ryan, Toner; O’Mahony, Leavy, Stander.

Replacements: Cronin, McGrath, Porter, Henderson, Murphy, Marmion, Carbery, Larmour.
